I am desperprately seeking some advice and alternatives for my son(age 5) who has ADHD. He is out of control without the medication Adderall that the doctor put him on. Recently we have noticed frequent erections and now night terrors in him. Every teacher says the same thing when he is off/on the medicine and almost was denied entrance to a catholic kindergarten because he failed his "test"(which was due to attention span). I am not sure what to do. I am a single parent and have an 18month old as well, so my own attention to him is divided. I am stressed everyday and just do not know what to do anymore. His father is in his life and sees him often(whole different story) but it is not the normal family life he should be having. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am exhausted.

Communitcate with the school about what your son needs. While medication can help, they may have different ideas as to how to help him. We are doing a "504" for my oldest who was just diagnosed this summer (which is how I got diagnosed too). While it won't put her in special classes like an IEP, it will help change the way she does her school work in class and out in order to work with her learning style instead of against it.
Good luck!
