Just a weird question... So a while ago, when I wasn't taking medicine, I drank 5 hour energy just for fun. The weird thing is, it actually made me calmer. Did anybody else have this happen to them?

Maybe since most add meds are stimulants, maybe caffeine might have the same effect on some? Since caffeine is a stimulant itself.

it makes sense chemically...

5 hour energy isnt supposed to make you "not calm," in fact i think it is supposed to just make you cool, collected, energized, BUT on task. you can be energized and MOTIVATED, and i think that's why ADHD meds and 5 hour energy do.

but i also here that some people do 5HE and they start shaking and what not and that it makes them feel sick...

to either their own!

Please note that that particular drink has only about the caffeine of one cup of coffee. I thought they were great until they started to cause trouble by lasting much too long when I used them too many days in a row. Mileage may vary.

The other ones with guarana (almost 100% caffeine) are especially dangerous in my view. 5-Hour Energy seems to me to be the least likely to have ill effects of all of the ones I have looked at.

Taking too much stimulant of any kind can cause heart palpitations, jitteriness, restlessness and anxiety in anyone, whether or not they have ADHD.

But when I took my first dose of Ritalin, I did have that "calm" effect almost immediately. When I took the second dose a few hours later and went to the mess hall, I could actually taste my food (all the time I had just thought food all tasted the same)! Did anyone else out there have that experience?

Well, energy drinks aren't supposed to make your hyper and all over the place, but rather... energized and concentrated... I mean, it's mostly students and managers who drink them, when needing to study or work on project... So it is logical it helps with the concentration somehow. Though I think the motivation is rather a placebo effect. "I need to finish this and energy drink/coffee is going to help me".

I am not doctor, but I suspect that caffeine has been around very long, so it's tried... Nowadays it's unnecesarily demonized. It is not the ultimate evil and unless you overdose on it, or have health problems like high blood presure, it will probably not cause serious harm.
