I have been medication free now for about 36 months. I was originally diagnosed depressive bipolar about 5 years ago; went on all the standard meds for bp for about 3 years and it was the worst time of my life (lost friends, job). Meds made me VERY suicidal and finally decided to wean off of meds altogether to see if I could get a feel for what my baseline off of meds was. I've read tons of books and when I finally read two on adult ADD the light in my head went on -- this describes me. (And the 2 tests on this site were very helpful.)

I saw one psychiatrist who was a very nice woman and seems knowledgeable, but she says she won't prescribe adderall or any of the other 'standard' treatments for ADD because they are too addictive. Has anyone else ran into this??

If anyone knows a doc in the Bellevue, Washington area and can pass on a name to me, that would be wonderful. Any advice on how to talk to docs about adult ADD?

Thanks.

There's a good website of a Bellevue doc I've read before (and wished I lived on that coast :-) A couple paragraphs down on his site he has info on adult ADD.
