I guess I've had ADD all my life but learned to function enough that
it wasn't noticeable. My brother has ADHD and he's way different from me so again mine wasn't noticed. I was always the quiet one, while my brother was the hyperactive one. As I hit puberty I started getting more hyper myself and I had major mood swings. At 35 I was dx with bipolar and have been on medication since. Now I'm almost 50. I've been stabilized on the bipolar meds and now the ADD symptoms are showing up. I've lost 2 jobs which I'm sure is related to the ADD. My pdoc put me on Dextroamphetimine and I took it for a month. It seemed to wake me up and give me energy but it did nothing for the "spaciness". Stimulants such as caffeine make things worse. It wakes me up but makes me jittery and more impulsive. My mind goes way too fast and it comes out in my speech (talking fast and pressured speech). I thought the fast talking was mania from the bipolar, now I'm not so sure. I often have sleep problems. No problem falling asleep, just can't stay asleep more than 2 or 3 hours at a time. Not sure if perimenopause could also be an issue. Like I said the ADD dx is new to me. I've dealt with bipolar and it comes and goes. This spaciness never goes away. any ideas? |
