Ritalin fried my brain. Never heard of effexor being used for adhd. I take dexamphetamine, or dexedrine as its known as and I find it works really well. Good luck

Hi kikki27,

This is the information I received from my doctor at the Amen Clinic in Newport Beach, California about Effexor XR: "At low dosages, Effexor XR will help anxiety, depression and obsessive thinking, and at high dosages will help ADHD symptoms. An antidepressant with action at multiple receptor sites, Effexor XR will enhance prefrontal cortex function and decrease anterior cingulate and limbic hyperactivity. Effexor XR has a starting dosage of 37.5 mg daily, increasing by one every 7 days as tolerated, to the therapeutic target dose of 75 mg to 350 mg. It should be taken with food to avoid upset stomach. Effexor XR should not be stopped abruptly because it has been associated with a discontinuation syndrome in some patients. At higher dosages, blood pressure should be monitored."

I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I will start taking Effexor XR next week; my doctor wanted me to be off the drug clonazepam (generic for Klonopin) before I started taking Effexor XR. Wellbutrin caused increased anxiety for me, but clonazepam withdrawal was causing anxiety anyway. Wellbutrin might work for you. I am taking Neurontin and Luvox right now, but will need to come off Luvox slowly as I add Effexor XR.

Ritalin from the choices that were given. But one of the best meds, in my opinion (and I have taken them all) is Adderall. It has little side effects and works wonders for me.

the three that are specifically for ADHD are Ritalin, Adderal, and Strattera. The last one is a non-amphetamine based drug. I would be careful with Effexor and Welbutrin as the doses are high to treat ADHD and haven't been proven to be really good drugs of choice for ADHD.

Yeah my doctor was trying to give me effexor or luvox .I did not good on wellbutrin myself It made my head hurt and made my anxiety fly through the roof.Yeah I have high blood pressure and that made it worse .I do have samples of ritlin and it helps me focus but does not help with adhd like making me move my hands and feet and feeling highperactive.Good luck with your meds.
Thanks for this!

Ritalin gave me a headache when it wore off but it also made me feel like I was coming down from acid/lsd (not a user of it have just had my drink spiked with it) it would make my head feel cloudy and my vision would go back to what it was like with the acid. One of my worst experiences with a med. But just remember everyone is different. Also if I remember correctly dexedrine is the same as adderall, im from australia so they have different names for some things

Is that amen clinic at inpatient hospital?Because I am willing to go anywhere to get my adhd under control because it is stressing out my family and friends to see me being able to not focus on when they are trying to talk to me.My sister and friendship is getting messed up cause where we could tell eachother every thing now she keeps secrets and seems distance .And my dad be like stop theres no thing such as adhd and I told him he wrong cause there is,And my mom get stress out with us going at it everyday. And I have ocd and again he saying this stuff is all in my head and Iam lying .How do I convince him this stuff is real?I try my hardest to get him to go with me to my doctor appointments so they can explain to him.But he want do that either.Did your family acted the same way ?Sorry if it to long but had to vent with you cause you are a good person
