I do not take it but perhaps I can give you a little insight into it

First, it is generally considered for high blood pressure. As an off label use (and I believe it is now an accepted use) has proven to be effective in treating inattentiveness without stimulents. Ritilin is a stimulent which comes with a whole set of issues particularly long term. This medication helps regulate norepinephrine.

Were you on an extended dose of Ritilin or were you taking it a few times a day? One of the great things about this medication, aside from not being a stimulent, is that it is extended release and often times can be taken once daily. Will not cause the insomnia associated with stimulents and does not usually have an effect on appitite.

Have you ever had any problems with high blood pressure? can be common when taking stimulents. Might be why he suggested this one?

So here is a thought.

This you would have to talk to your doctor about but since you have high blood pressure, if he gave you the script for the blood pressure and not AHDH, insurance may actually cover it. Welbutrine is used for depression as well as smoking cessation. However, if a Dr. prescribes it for smoking, some insurance will not cover it. however most insurance covers it for depression.

Might be worth checking if there is a loophole that can be used.

Yeah that makes no sense. If a medication was working for you and he changed it, that is not a good doctor. If he is pushing something else on you, you can bet your last dollar that he is being pushed by a drug rep to prescribe their drug. That is a bad sign. Find another pdoc ASAP! If you have to wait a long time go to your primary and see if he will prescribe your psych meds for you until you find another pdoc. That is what I did and it was no problem for my primary to do that. Just explain the issue.
