Why does ADHD seem to be so misunderstood? No one seems to get how frustrating it can be. No one seems to understand that it is more than just a lack of focus.

Being ADHD it is so easy to get overstimulated causing anger and anxiety. For me, when I get overstimulated, I just shut down completely. I zone out completely when I realize I'm zoned out, but there seems to be a wall of fog between me and reality. Overstimulation also causes so much anxiety...

One minute I will be completely blah and zoned out and the next I will be running a million miles a minute. People can barely understand what I say because I talk so fast when I do talk and they cannot follow my train of thought... more like a hovercraft of thought.

Relationships are difficult also. During conversations with friends, family, or anyone... I will easily zone out. And being stuck in my head can be frustrating for others. I have thoughts in my head that I cannot explain to anyone else and being frustrated or upset by things others would probably find silly.

I know this is more of a vent or something, but it just frustrates me that ADHD is pinned as a problem for inattentive and hyper children. I'm 19, in college, and studying for a double major in Music Therapy and Music Composition and I just want people to understand

It's totally misunderstood! D: My friends used to tease me for having it. They asked things like "Well why can't you just focus on something and stop slacking." How dare they! lol Some of my friends don't even have ADHD and I get better grades than them. :P Ha! Jokes on them. xD But seriously, it is taken a bit too delicately. Oh, and I totally get you about that thoughts that run through people's head when someone had ADHD. I actually found out that normal people have more brain activity?! How can that be possible when I feel that my mind is always on full speed. So many thoughts run through my head, I could be thinking abut multiple things at once. It's like a tape that is in fast forward and they say normal people have more brain activity? I find it hard to believe -_-
This is why I wanna become a therapist so I can go into mental health research and find out how the brain of a person with ADHD REALLY works.
