I sure do. I'm on my fifth cell phone! That's why I have a simple clam shell. I'm afraid to get one of those spiffy iPhones or Droids. If I lost those I'd have a heart attack.

I lose gloves, hats, jackets.

I've been that way since I was a kid.

What have you lost?

I lose sunglasses. Constantly. I buy cheapies because I can never keep track of them for any length of time. Either that or I break them

Definitely. Although I do think I lose things less when I'm on Concerta, at least for the absent-minded "where did I just put _____? I was holding it 2 minutes ago!!" type of situation.

I keep the keys on a hook in the pantry so I will always be able to find them but I get them off the hook ready to leave the house and then I get distracted by something that I need to do before I leave or something I have forgotten to take with me and by the time I get to the door I've lost the keys. Sooo frustrating.

for many years after i got brain damage, i had almost no short term memory, and very little long term,, so i lived in what i called the "stream of consciousness",, moment to moment, it's an interesting way to live,, i am gradually recovering my memory thru a therapy called CenterPointe, i'm so happy to remember someone's name, what they said, where they live, where i put my wallet~ hope you find something to help, too~~ best wishes,, Gus

I swear I would loose my head if it weren't attrached. I've lost keys, library books, homework assignments, gloves, hats... you name it.

Keys -- always my keys. And I'm always leaving stuff in shops! Luckily I always get it back (*touch wood*) but I'm always leaving shops with my phone on the counter or my wallet on a shelf!

I wonder how much time I spend each day looking for things. I don't realize that I'm carrying something into another room. I've even been looking for my glasses while they were in my hand. Now, that's scary. I also search and search for an item that's right in front of me, but I don't see it.

I have lost car keys (once actually my car in a parking garage, spent an hour walking up and down the levels), constantly losing hats, scarves, gloves, reading glasses, cel phone and charger, library books (I have paid them enough for a whole collection), gift certificates, money, notebooks full of my writing (I write fiction and poetry), CDs, you name it, have had this problem my whole life. Family and friends get infuriated with me and act like I do it on purpose! As if it makes my life easier! Kat

It was one of the diagnostic questions. I leave my car keys in the vehicle. Neither one is worth stealing.I don't have a clue where my glasses are, Or where my right arm brace is, or where half of anything is in my house at one certian time. I carry no keys, therefore they can not be lost, so there. We have keys at work however. Those We all misplace. Or stick in our pockets or purses, half the staff have ADHD, the other half is bipolar, some are most likely both. Makes for fun times on the job.
I am constantly walking into a room with out a clue as to what I was going to do once I got there.

Oh wow, I know THAT one well. I've spent five minutes searching for my phone, while I was busy talking to my cousin who had called me from out of state

I don't have ADD & I'm constantly loosing things.....especially the keys & mostly when I'm running late in the first place.

Or there's the time when I buy something in the store & end up walking out without my package.....duh.

My other good one that I did the other week.....I had my Pharmacy card out for a new pharmacy I needed to get my meds at. I gave them my card & got it back. I drove away & realized I wanted to ask another question from the phone number on the card but couldn't get through to it except through the pharmacy, so I drove back to the pharmacy & had the card when I went back to talk with them.....I got home & couldn't find the card the next morning.....started to panic....& called the pharmacy...it wasn't there. For some strange reason, I just pulled out my drivers license which was in the front window & there the card was behind my license....I never put anything behind my license & have no idea why I would even think of looking there for it....other than I was desperate to look every possible place.

My favorite one was when I bought a new pair of prescription sun glasses. Had them in my car.....stopped to do a few errands & pick up shots for my dogs along with a few other packages from a couple of other stores......never saw my sunglasses after that. Not in any of the bags....didn't drop out of my car anywhere....I was so frustrated, but I just couldn't think of where they could have possibly gone. Six months later, I opened my refrigerator & went to get out the shots to give to my dogs....there inside the box on top of the shots were my brand new sunglasses.....I had almost forgotten about them by that time. ugh.....& this is a person who doesn't have ADD.

Wow! How interesting! I practically never lose anything but I forget everything! Maybe I lose things but then I forget I ever had them!

I spend a tremendous amount of time looking for things but it's seldom anything I've "lost" recently. I feel so woefully disorganized that anything can cross my mind and I'll feel like I have no idea where it is. This morning I had a few fresh flowers and I thought where is a vase? I must have looked 10 places before I found the one I wanted under the bathroom sink.

Anything out of my sight is, to a great degree, out of my mind. It's kinda' fun in a way though - I'm always finding things and it's almost like it's the first time I've seen them!

I have a hard time talking to my psychiatrist about this stuff. She looks at me like she thinks I'm kidding and I'm not!

As an ADD/ADHD coach, counselor, & support group leader, I have had to find my own solutions to losing things. This following tip has assisted everyone I have passed it on to:

Theory: (1) Verbal (auditory, out-loud) statements tend to register more strongly in memory than do non-verbal "thoughts." (2) Repetition creates non-conscious habits. (3) Awareness is increased through "slowing down" enough to pay attention to what is being done (stay focused...alert...to our actions).

Technique: To lose things less, (1) state aloud the action being done (e.g. "I am putting my keys on the kitchen counter"). As you say it aloud you are (a) slowing down to notice, (b) reinforcing memory, (c) paying attention.

Long term results: The longer you practice this technique, the more automatic it will become, & the easier it is to remember where things were placed (mental images actually will appear). I can easily "picture" where I put things now because I "stopped, looked, & listened."

Bonus: A bonus to the technique is that it "generalizes" (a psychological term that means that learned behaviors transfer to other activities not directly related to the learned behavior). So that, in time, you will most likely learn to slow down & pay attention to your behavior in all aspects of life (i.e., when speaking, shopping, etc.).

I would be interested in hearing results from those who try this technique (all my support group members are gung-ho on the positive results).

Best to all. Keep up the good work!

Dean.
Thanks for this!

Hahah that is my life! I've forgotten my north face on an airplane, brand new dvds on a different airplane. In fact, yesterday I got all the way to my class and realized that I forgot to bring my bag that has my notebook in it (so annoyed with myself!). I am always putting my phone or keys in places and then unable to remember where I put them. I just have to laugh at myself. My boyfriend thinks it's hilarious!
