Hey Everyone,
Im 25 and have on and off ritalin, stratterra, and adderall for a few years now. Since Ive been on Adderall for the past few months my hair has shed in insane amounts. Granted, it could be Telogen Effluvium from a serious surgury I had in May but i feel like it should have grown back since then. I take 25mgs twice daily. Eat ALOT because Im a weightlifter and sleep ok amounts. I do grind my teeth sometimes though. My question is, is this what I have to look forward for the rest of my life? Popping ADD pills and going bald or not being able to finish school because of my add??? Are there any other alternatives??? Medications that dont cause this?? ![]() |

[quote=jaredmb05;2086928]Hi Jared, since the problem seemed to start with the Adderall, maybe you can just switch off of Adderall to one of the other ADHD meds. When you were on ritalin and strattera, did you have this problem? If not, maybe try those drugs again. Or something else. I have taken Wellbutrin and Vyvanse. Hopefully your doc can get you on something less apt to cause hair loss.
Other approaches to treating ADHD include cognitive behavior therapy, neurofeedback, and brain strengthening exercises. Best of luck.

Good luck with that. I am starting to explore alternatives myself.

Just to throw in an alternate hypothesis, it could actually be natural male pattern baldness and not the meds!
And the two options you mention - meds and baldness vs. finishing school - well, besides the fact that there are other options (e.g. different meds), which is really more important to you? Hair that you will probably lose eventually anyway, or getting a degree? You might only need the meds to finish up at school, and then can use other therapies after that, so it could just be a temporary situation for you. Count yourself lucky if you're not a meds-for-lifer. I just got that sentence recently and it's a bitter pill to swallow... Good luck!

Addreall doesn't cause baldness from what I read.
It could be telogen effluvium like you said, which is triggered by high levels of stress/anxiety. I'm guessing it could also be triggered by natural male hair loss. |
