ok, so here's my problem. like my title says, i am very convinced that i have some form of attenion defeict disorder, but the only problem is, no professinal that's seen me seems to think so. iv done quite a bit of resreach on adhd, and i seem to have most of the symphoms. i have brought this up with my theapist, and she says she doesnt think so. now, im 90% sure i have this, and it pisses me off that she wont even hear me out on it. the reason why i say that is because of how quickly she dismissed it. in fact, im so convinced, that im wondering why no other school official/or therapist(she's my second one) has caught on too it before? instead, they just gave BS diagnosis such as disruptive behavior disorder. it's very frustrating because i feel like no one is listening too me. any help?

It sounds like you have some symptoms of hypochondria, like you are obsessed with possibly of having ADHD. Now, you could genuinely have it also. Your therapist could be wrong, and its at least worth a shot of having her screen you for it. If she disagrees, then possibly go to an ADHD specialist in the area and have them thoroughly screen you for it. The problem with this diagnosis is it can mimic other symptoms such as anxiety disorder, or some forms of depression. For instance, the inability to sit still in ADHD is caused by psychomotor restlessness, whereas in an anxiety disorder it is a fight/flight response. Makes sense? What makes that even tougher is that ADHD patients tend to have a lot of anxiety already. So for you to get a proper diagnosis takes quite a few tests and visits I would think. That's my opinion.

what problems does your ADHD cause? What do you expect from the treatment? If with the rate this diagnosis is thrown around multiple professionals don't see it, than you are probably are not....

There are computer-based ADHD tests as well. Less subjective than the clinical interview for diagnosis, though doubtless not perfect. I took one called the CPT II, it's basically a boring "game" and your performance is automatically scored in minutes, so they can make a treatment plan in the same visit. This is probably mostly available in larger agencies or offices where they get enough volume to make it worthwhile for them.

The doc should at least listen. It took my doc 5 years to understand that I didn't pretend I had depression, she was just so stuck in her ways she thought that if you didn't act exactly like her case studies, it wasn't depression but some kind of attention seeking, so she labeled me with BPD.
Later I got correct diagnoses and correct treatment but I lost half a decade of my life to that stuckup knowitall ¤#%"&"%#! And I was right afterall! |
