Hi, I'm a seventeen year's old and my best friend tells me that she thinks I might have ADD.

  • I am impulsive, I act on instinct almost always.
  • I speak before I think all the time, not thinking about the consequences of my actions.
  • I talk too much because I hate silence for some reason. Silence to me is uncomfortable and awkward, and I feel anxious, nervous when there's silence.
  • I start to self-blame when there is silence, I start to think that nobody wants to talk to me because I'm boring, and I continue to blame myself until I get depressed.

  • If I can't say the stuff on my mind, I feel trapped and suffocated, and I desperately want to let my thoughts out, regardless if people want to hear them or not.

  • I would gladly make myself a laughing spectacle to make others laugh, their laughter fuels me.

  • I don't know how to take social cues, << quoted from my best friend. I don't understand or can't see when someone is talking about a private subject, and I ask questions about it out of curiousity anyway.
  • I sometimes think I lack empathy, because I hardly ever feel emotions for other people.
  • When I ask a friend out to go shopping together, I always feel like I'm wasting their time. I feel obliged to reward them or I will feel guilty.
  • I can't concentrate on text that is not in my particular area of interest, and it's hard to memorise quotes from that text too.
  • I have a short attention span, and I forget things quickly unless it's very important.
  • I often forget if I have locked the door behind me etc.
  • When I'm bored, I often feel depressed then eat nonstop. Not because I'm hungry but because I'm bored.
  • Me and my parent's relationship is really bad, to the point that I told them I felt like I was using them for money because I couldn't find that emotional connection with them.

So there is most of it, please tell me if I do have ADD. I just spent an hour looking up the symptoms and information about Attention deficient disorder, and I might need to see a pyscharitryst if I do have it.

It sounds a lot like depression. Depression symptoms include lack of concentration and forgetfulness. That being said, it could be ADD. Nobody can diagnose you on here but if you are worried then maybe consider making an appointment with you doctor.
Take care and good luck

Thanks for this!
