my hubby's 5 yr. old grandson has been diagnosed with either add or adhd (he lives in fla. and we live in az. so we can't seem to get too much info. from hubby's daughter.) seems a psychiatrist?? took a urine sample and he either has too much or too little or some chemical and the psychiatrist believes by changing diet/adding minerals, etc. that he can treat the boy this way without rx such as adderall or ritalin. has anyone had success going this holistic route? thanks.

I believe in it, the holistic approach, especially for children. Fish oils are supposed to be very good, they make little bursty lemon flavored ones that my kids really liked. It is important that the child get help at school like an IEP Individual Education Program, or a 504 Plan - that's what they're called here. They will probably say he's too young for an IEP, so get the teachers to make accomodations for him. Allow him to get up from his seat during class when he needs to, a squeezy ball to hold helps them focus. There are many things that can help the kids in school. My daughter was treated horribly, forced to sit facing the wall, kept in during most recesses. Just because she couldn't sit still and was so easily distractable. Her self-esteem suffered horribly, and she started hurting herself by age 14 and then we finally got the IEP, now she's 18, didn't graduate but she'll be ok, she is so awesome and creative. Oh I do wish I would've got her IEP sooner, I just had no idea about our rights.
