I am new here and I have not been to a dr yet but have taken many quizzes on adult adhd. I have scored positive everytime and says need to consult dr.
I was wondering if there are any adults with this condition on here. I am a mother of a 20 yr old and a 8 yr old. I am losing it. I need to get to dr and talk to some adult that was diagnoised later in life. thank you deeblake41 ![]() |

I am an adult and was diagnosed later in life. you are not alone! Do either of your children have ADHD? I have heard that many adults get diagnosed for the first time when their child is diagnosed. The clinician will take a family history and discover ADHD in the parent.

Hi all! I'm new to this board as well and have known for a long time that I need to get some help. Self help books just don't do it for me. My question is this . . Have any of you had difficulties getting a diagnosis as an adult? I worry that the MD will wonder why I didn't get help sooner and why if I got along okay for this long (my son is 29) do I need a diagnosis now.
cheers, pem |

Hi, as a child I was diagnosed Hyperactive... In my 20's I was diagnosed Bi-polar and yesterday I was diagnosed ADHD... My psych was pretty shocked when she read my test results...I've known for years I wasn't only Bi-polar but my psychs never diagnosed me correctly until now... Just glad I asked to be tested....

My PNP, by the way, also considered depression and anxiety as diagnoses to be ruled out. She started me on an anti-depressant, Wellbutrin, which is also good for treating ADHD. My ADHD symptoms improved somewhat but she wasn't satisfied and thought I could do better, so then I got Vyvanse too. I think having me try the Wellbutrin first helped us see I didn't just have depression. I think if I had gone to see her and said "I want stimulants" she might have been suspicious. I just trusted her to do her job and it worked out fine.

Hello, nice to meet you.
Why are you worried dear, I have met many many people who have been diagnosed with ADHD. There are many tips and suggestions to deal with the symptoms of ADHD. You just have to learn more about them. Do not be depressed. ADHD comes with its gifts. ADHD people (adults and children) have a better IQ than non-ADHD people. Many famous and successful personalities had ADHD and they achieved many success in their lives for example, The following list of famous people living with ADHD proves that anything is possible: * Thomas Edison * Christopher Columbus * Pablo Picasso * Beethoven * Jim Carrey * Michael Phelps * Ty Pennington * Justin Timberlake * Solange Knowles |
