I am not sure if I am in the right place, But I think I might have ADD. My whole life I have had a hard time getting things done never being able to finish and I am in my 30s. I also worry about every thing , and my mind never stops working. Like I think of all the things that need done over and over again in my head and never get anything done that I was thinking. I do have a hard time remembering things If I don’t write them down I will forget, or if someone tells me something like directions or instructions for something I have to ask a couple of more times before I get it.(or just write it down and keep going over it )

My husband will say to me cant you finish one thing before starting something new or how may times do I have to tell you something before I get it, It does really upset him . But he has been telling me that for years, we have been married for 14 years. (I just thought that’s me and it makes me made when I cant get anything done or to look nice)

Well this all started when my friend was diagnosed with ADD, so I wanted to check into it and see what was going on with her. Well when I was reading all the stuff of adult ADD That all sounded like me, and I thought it was when you where hyper . Cuz I am not hyper, I just thought I was just a worry wort , just cant get thing done like other people, and maybe had a learning disability , and Just cant remember things. That’s me and never thought it could be something else like medical condition ,I still could be wrong. I have been this way my hole life, So what do you think??? I know I will have to go to the doctors, But I don’t have a doctor , I only go when sick so it has been years. Or what kind of dr to go to also no health ins.

Well I will keep on talking so I better quiet before I drive you crazy and thank you for listening to me .
(I took the quiz on this site and said I scored 96????????? I know they said it doesnt mean a thing but got me thinking again)

Take care Dawn

Hi Dawn

Just wanted to welcome you. I can't answer your questions, I'm afraid, except to suggest your dr is your first port of call as far as assessment goes - or that's how it would be here in the uk anyway. I did feel, on reading your symptoms, that I also have a lot of them, but my diagnosis is not ADHD - I guess that just goes to prove we need to leave diagnosis to the professionals! Hopefully someone with more knowledge of the US health service will be able to give you more specific advice about how you can go about getting medical help.
Take care, and hope you soon feel at home here.

Hi Dawn

There are definitely others who post here, though this is not the most active of the boards at PC.

ADHD - may be a uk term (I teach in the uk). Here ADD = Attention Defecit Disorder and ADHD = Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (which is what we seem to see a lot of in school!) The hyperactivity is the difference between the two.
Hopefully someone else can give you more information than I can - I'm no expert!

dawn3, try visiting www.chadd.org for more info.
Also, sounds like you would benefit from ADD medication, as your symptoms mirror mine.
Why torture yourself?
There is help out there.

dawn, I wouldn't get too hung up on symptoms, as I think the important thing is you've acknowledged something is bugging you (or your family) and you're sick of putting up with it!
it's mostly a trial and error thing, as ADD is different for most people, but never finishing things you start, forgetting to do things you promised, thinking of a million things all at once...yeah, that's my symptoms too.
ask your doctor or clinic to refer you to a psychiatrist, since most doctors aren't too willing to listen to ADD problems. (then ask him or her if they deal with ADD)
once you start on your quest, you'll be much better able to deal with things....it's a learning process

Hi Dawn,
I can't believe there are other people who feel the way I do- I have the same symptoms as you. It's so nice to have found this place.
I hate making decisions- and when I have to, I can't let it go. It's like I stress over making the wrong decision. This could be over something as mundane as ordering in a restaurant. Do you feel that way too?
I also wanted to ask- does anyone have a symptom of writing lists- alot of lists. I have about 5 lists in my purse and I just cleaned it out. (like a to do list) and not accomplishing anything on it?
It's also hard for me to trust others. Is this common with ADHD?
OK I'll stop with all the questions--- I'm driving you all crazy!!! New here and need some advice --- sorry... Ciao

Hello Dawn-

I am currently in the same position as you. I have similar symptoms that you have and it's greatly affecting my life. At this point, I feel as if I am the laziest person alive and very incapable of finishing anything. I once read that in order to achieve peace, we must end everything we started. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I thought I was, too, until I came across this forum. It's good to have some kind of support system. I have not been diagnosed, yet, but I plan on seeing a psychiatrist. If you don't have health insurance, then I would start looking into that - it may take a little bit of work. You can do it though b/c you've started to recognize that you may have a problem.

Take care and God speed...
