Is that a symptom of ADHD? Why can I only read books that im interested in, and then all of a sudden, forget what ive read the next day because ive read a novel in a few days but when i get to a book that i dont want to real such as a school novel i takes me half an hour to read the first page because my mind goes somewhere else or i get distracted and have to start all over again my mind can go blank for 5 minutes without noticing i say "stay on track!" but its really hard.

After that it takes 15 and then 10 minutes to read a page of a novel that im not interested in and then doesnt change after that.

My doctor wants me to treat my OCD before even getting diagnosed with ADHD is that a good Idea? please help me this is really killing me i want to kill myself I don't know if this is a symptom please tell me or if its my ocd or possible adhd this has happened all my life but i have managed to get out of it until now please help m 16 and male if that helps

Oh honey ((((hugs))))) I'm sorry. Don't hurt yourself.

Yes, it is a CLASSIC symptom, I have an excellent vocabulary and am a quick reader, but if it is something I don't care about and am not interested in, I can read it, know every word, it's meaning, and pronunciation, and yet not be able to tell you what I just read at all.

It is very frustrating.

They can treat both disorders concurrently, and I'm sure your doctor will address both problems. It is not unusual to develop disorders such as depression, anxiety, ocd, avoidant behavior, and all kind of unhealthy coping mechanisms in addition to and even because of adhd. Adhders are notorious for being all kind of stressed out, oppositional, irritable, moody, drug and alcohol abusing buckets of nerves. I only get to say that cause I'm one of them too lol

Treating it helps BUNCHES, I know you are hurting, but I'm SO glad you have a doctor treating you, and I PROMISE it will get better, hang in there, it will take a bit to get your medicine right, but there are many doses and options, honestly it has made a WORLD of difference, I don't know where I would be without adhd medicine and antidepressants.....possibly I would not have even survived.

(((((((((((((((Big ADHD bouncy hugs!)))))))))))

I agree w/ Joker Girl. Yes it is a classic symptom.

Thanks. Im in the hospital right now for being suicidal. I'm just very impatient with the treatment of my psychosis and how people are very skeptical about ADHD and how It is treated.

I know it is tough for you right now, but things are going look up for you, just keep your chin up. Maybe if you can look around your area on the internet see if there is any adhd specialist psychiatrist's in your area.

That is a very good point. Sometimes it can be hard to get what you want say or express, but sometimes you can get out what you want to say in other places, like here. And as avlady said, refer to this and maybe give a good starting point on to talk to T and Psychiatry doctor about.
