I have to wait four months to get evaluated for ADD or ADHD by a psychologist before my psychiatrist will even consider treating me with ADD. Why why why they're so strict here I hate this he wont even give me my seroquel back to calm me down or something for me to concentrate better until then I just cried all night because its just not fair..

Has anyone else had to go throught this? I'm taking high level english in the summer because of the classes i missed in the hospital and I can't even read a paragraph I have severe ADD my doctor could at least cut me some slack it's outrageous.

I am actually doing a research paper on this right now. The reason why is it becoming more and more difficult for one to attain and ADHD diagnosis and be medicated is the high level of abuse rates of the various stimulant medications (particularly the amphetamines and methylphenidates).

If the psychiatrist is through your college, I know colleges are really cracking down on ADHD medications and diagnosises.

I understand your feelings with having to wait. I'm currently on what was at the time a 2 year waiting list to see a T, and I'm still waiting... Sigh.

Just do your best to stay strong.

If they become too strict on me like "oh you don't have add bla bla" willm my pdoc put a stamp on my record that says "don't treat for ADHD"?

Would It be too late to see a private pdoc then?

No?

If they won't treat you, then find another pdoc that will

Pdoc do not share information unless you allow them permission to release it.

Unfortunately I know the frustration. My best doc claiming I have ADD and I would probably do well on a stimulant. I ask if they can try me on it while I wait for the testing. He says, some other counties do that but where we live, they have decided not to. He says I just have to wait in line for the tests and then I can try the med.

I had to wait two years. Yup..... Sigh. And yea, med actually does help even if I take it selectively, not every day.

However, I could take whatever meds I had before and also try a new one, just not a stimulant.

What ALSO teed me off a little, was that they had explained the test which was fine doing. I even did some weird stuff on a computer. So then was I good to go? Nope. Had to go in for a baseline blood pressure and weighing thing. Fine. Could do that. And told I have to get my blood pressure taken regularly. Sigh. Not that I disapprove, I just wish they had told me. What I do disapprove with was the drug test. I demanded the list to see what they tested me for... amphetamines, benzos, booze effects, opiates yadda yadda. I waited two years and they think I'm in it for the drugs?.....

Anyway. I refused to pee in a cup in front of a nurse. I said that was humiliating and they can't make me do that. Then they asked if they can draw blood which I agreed to, because I didn't find it abusive. It was a more pricey test but luckily I didn't have to pick up the tab.

I'm glad that you've finally went through the testing after waiting so long.

"I waited two years and they think I'm in it for the drugs?....."

Yeah some people just don't have any common sense. I'll keep updated on this. *sigh*..

Remember that Alonewithmycat is in Canada. There may be significant differences in
their medical care system than there are here in the U.S. I think her best source
for right now would be the advice of her personal physician, who, I feel sure, is aware
of Canadian medical procedures.

If she were in the United States, I would suggest that she get another doctor as
soon as possible. 4 months without medications is difficult, to say the least, with ADHD, ADD, or any other mental problem.

I have only read minimally on canada and the differences between the U.S. and us. But one of the things that makes it hard beside the testing process is also the control they put on medication there compared to here in the states. I say again I have done minimal research but one of the big things that stuck out to me was that in canada, adderall is a schedule one drug and has no medical benefit or the risk to use it in medical treatment is to great due to its possibility for drug abusers to seek it. so they did away with it all together. here in the states it is a schedule 2 drug. SO it seems they keep there system pretty tightly wrapped up in canada.

I'm a dude lol not she.

I thought it was just the XR version of adderall that was banned not the SR. That's quite a shame really. I hope it isn't all the amphetamines or methylphenidates otherwise i wouldn't really have much of a choice on medications..

So I think that I'm going to do math or physics instead of English for the summer because I have bad language skills and It would be easier to focus on English when I get treated. I'm glad to have thought of this because I was just beating myself up for the last couple of days thinking that i would have to do English for the summer and do very bad in it.
