I have ADHD combined type and I'm suppose to be on a med for it. I was on adderall, but it gave me such painful earaches that I had to stop it. Ritalin was great for my balance which I loved since I have the tendency to almost fall and bump into things. Ritalin caused my hallucinations to manifest and it was so awful. It took days after I stopped taking it for my hallucinations to go back to how they usually are.
So what I'm asking is, does anyone take a medication besides the two I mentioned and do you like? What are your recommendations?

I've been on Strattera and so far it's working. I'm newly re-diagnosed (had diagnosis as a kid but no one did anything about it).
My pdoc gave me a starter pack that was for 30 days. The first week was a low dose of around 20 mg, then the next week it bumped up to 40mg, and so on. It allowed me to slowly become adjusted to it. I did experience nausea at dose increases and tiredness but those went away. My pdoc had me take it at night so I could sleep through the tiredness and nausea and then once those side effects were gone I switched to taking it during the day. For me Strattera helps me to stay on task. My biggest ADD problems (in descending order) are: staying on task when I don't want to, jumping to conclusions or finishing other people's sentences, and at times anxiety. That last one is often situational, I don't feel it every minute of every day. To a lesser extent I do tend to miss details and frequently don't process correctly what others say to me but according to my pdoc, it's too soon to tell if the Strattera will help those symptoms or not. I will also say that I've had to cut my caffeine consumption to half because if not, I feel like a jittery mess. Hope this helps. |

Supposedly Wellbutrin is also good for ADHD, not working so well for me in that area but is great for depression.

Thanks for the responses! I will talk to my pdoc about it and discuss whether those are a good choice for me. I'm not sure about wellbutrin since that's an antidepressant and I have manic symptoms at times.

My pdoc just put me on Wellbutrin because she suspects I am ADHD . My daughter is and my parents said there were signs when I was younger but they are older and just summed it up as being very excitable and extremely talkative! And even if they knew for sure they would never medicate me for it.

My son takes Strattera and Concerta. Keeps him able to focus in school. He takes 108 mg Concerta, which is somewhat high for his age.

I take Straterra, 80 mg. I'm also on Wellbutrin 150 mg for depression and also because Wellbutrin may increase energy. I still have ADD issues and have decided to put it on the "to talk about list" on my next psych appointment. I think I should....there's that word again....be able to increase motivation and ability to focus better.
