So, I'm trying to understand ADD/ADHD better as well as see if there's a possibility I may have it. Anyone willing to help? If so, feel free to start asking any questions, I'm typically very open.

Hi Bamboo Red Panda. Nice to meet you. We have threads on ADD/ADHD. The best thing to do right now is to visit those threads. In my honest opinion, you should see a doctor to get a diagnosis. That is if you want to. It's good that you are reaching out to us here at Psych Central. Keep reaching out and it will start to get better.

Sincerely,

Piraeus

I know about the whole "you should see a doctor to get a diagnosis" thing, that's not what I want right now. I don't want to waste money I don't have if there's no chance that it would even be possible. Plus, as an aspiring clinical therapist, I really do want to understand ADD/ADHD a bit better. I have also already looked through the threads.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, I just hear it so often it gets tiresome lol, nothing meant at you.

Later I'll see if I can list some things that may or may not be related, and questions can be asked to help direct things.

Ok, let's see what kind of list I can make, this will not be everything I'm sure. I apologize for length. And don't tell me "oh, if you wrote so much, then you must not have adhd because you could focus on writing all of that" because I've heard that before.

-despite being an Aries, who are known to be very decisive, I am extremely indecisive to where it frustrates people, I have changed my major about four times, as an example.

-When I was little, and this may have been just young energy, I would often feel the urge to "race" like get to the car before my mom closes and locks the door, or run into the other room before someone comes around the corner. I still do this a bit now.

-Have always been very easily distracted by sights and sounds to the point of irritation because I couldn't block them out.

-I'm very easily bored, to the point that it feels like perpetual boredom because I just can't find enough activity.

-Even though I'm bored most of the time, there will be absolutely random moments when I have a massive burst of energy, the kind of giggly and bouncy kind.

-I tend to fidget a lot. Sure, I can stay seated if I have to, but I will move around. If I don't have to stay seated, then I'll get up often to walk around.

-I can't stand silence, I need noise, if there is no noise, then my own mind will start going. At night, when in bed, because it's quiet, I'll just get a flood of thoughts rushing in, to the point that I have to tell my own mind to "shut up and go to sleep"

-I can be quite forgetful in many different things. From thoughts, to chores.

-This may just be a learning styles thing, but since I'm a very visual learner, if a teacher just talks during class, nothing visual, I won't pay attention, I'll just start doodling.

-I'm impulsive with money. Once I have it, it's gone, getting spent on things I don't need.

-This may be part of boredom, but while driving I'll often get the urge to just speed, or I'll see a curb and what to drive right over it to go flying. I don't really do these things though.

I totally forgot the rest of what I was going to put, but that's a start.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
