Anyone have an opinion about the computerized tests for ADHD-TOVA or MOXO or others?

Hi, adhdgal2, and welcome to Psych Central! My son was tested before computer tests came along. I would think these tests would be pretty accurate, maybe even cutting down on any problems with interacting with an interviewer/tester.
What do you think? ![]() |

During a battery of tests that I took for ADHD/LD, there was a computerized test that was to test for impulsivity. A variety of letters would pop up on the screen and the test was to only click the "target" letter. The test monitored reaction time and ability to sort out the nonessential letters from the target letters and correctly hit the right ones. I think the results are pretty accurate from computer tests such as these but I still don't think that the tests can completely replace the tests administered by a human administrator.

I took the Conners space bar test where an X appears on the screen and every time you see it, you press the space bar. It tests your reaction time and other facets. I read that there is a 40% chance of false test results. I argued with a psychologist that a 14 minute test cannot be the only test to rule in or out ADHD. Actually these test cannot test hyperactivity so a thorough exam by a mental health professional with one's history taken into account is the only way to properly be diagnosed with ADD or ADHD.
I researched this and all of the experts agree that taking a history from the patient and the use of testing help to arrive at a diagnosis. Tests alone are not enough. Hope this helps |

Only as good as the tester. I am intelligent, top 2%. Some psychologist I paid to test me for ADHD said I didn't have it. My concentration was well ABOVE average.
Omg. I asked if my memory was also well above average. It was! I asked if my memory was better than my concentration. It was. I asked if my concentration was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than my memory. It was. And was that perhaps indicative of ADHD? Oh! ??? It could be! That exchange was so tedious l Iost interest in ADHD and remained untreated another few months. |
