Hi,
i am in college and have no idea how to follow lectures....
its the main (or only ) medium of teaching but I can't follow the lecturer or his powerpoint presentation etc..
all the other students in the hall seem to understand perfectly but all I hear is them going on and on and I just get bored and give up.....
Its like they're just talking and expect you to follow their train of thought but my brain refuses to follow anyone else's train of thought and just wants to follow its own......
does anyone else have this problem and what how do you deal with it.....?

Tina, sounds like you have a different learning style, don't learn through your ears :-)

See if you can learn what your learning style is and then "translate" what the lectures cover in a way that you can "hear" them; visually, sensually, etc.

You have to figure out a way that works best with how you learn. It's not you! It's just that the lectures don't match what you're good at, kind of like how some people are good at math and others English? You might want to go to your school's study/tutoring center, they might be able to suggest ideas on how to organize your listening so you can get more out of lectures.

Hi perna, thanx for ur advice,
yes its true i am not an auditory learner, i am probly a mixture of visual/tactile/kinesthetic.....and most of all tactile(!)...however the lectures are mainly auditory.....
I have more or less decided not to go to lectures and just read the notes and textbook but i can't seem to learn it this way eitther.....
this is my problem with learning, however I have been able to concentrate on things like sport, life drawing classes, chess, playing musical instruments etc.....just can't seem to concentrate on things like reading lecture notes although its not that I don't find the courses interesting.......
.....i tend to learn by doing............

so my question is how would I use my learning style preferences in learning the material in the lectures I study engineering btw.....so most of the stuff is equations and the like.....
