i am an adhd adult not diagnosed til age 50 when upset with menopause created issues that were uncopable...once i did research into adhd and inheriting it, it was simple to see that my gramma and my dad must also have been...from there i thought long and hard about these traits in my own kids (also adult at this time)...and found my son has displayed symptoms but when talking with him he easily shrugged off having a brain chemical deficiency/condition...but now he has a severe drinking problem and i am sure it started out as self-medication to cover up his feelings ..i have read articles that children with ADD/ADHD who are not medicated can be susceptible to alcholol/drug dependence...can any of you confirm this prior to your acceptance or own diagnosis?

I am a recovering alcoholic. I think part of it could have been to slow my brain down. I also think part of it is hereditary as my older sister is one too and also has ADHD and my uncle is a recovering alcoholic as well as several Grandparents.
