Hi everyone. So my insurance doesn't want to cover Vyvanse anymore, or Adderall (been on it before). I have an appointment with my pdoc on Friday so we're gonna have to try something else.

My question is in the title. I prefer stimulants as it helps me focus and get stuff done at work. I've been on stimulants for about 7 years now so I've kinda been depending on them to take care of my daily life tasks.

Has anyone had success with something other than Adderall or Vyvanse? Your info would be greatly appreciated as I really need something that's gonna work since I'm going back to taking some classes so I don't exactly have the time to try a bunch of stuff that doesn't work for months until we land something that helps me.

Thanks!

Ritalin works for me, but they may not cover that either.

There's;
Desoxyn IR (methamphetamine IR)
Dexedrine IR (Dextroamphetamine IR)
Ritalin IR (Methylphenidate IR)
Ritalin XR (Concerta)
Ritalin XR (methylphenidate XR)
Focalin IR And XR (Dexmethylphenidate)

I could be missing some but the rest are blood pressure medications and stuff.

Concerta is the best I think. The outer coating is pure methylphenidate which works faster than Ritalin IR so technically, Concerta is both IR and XR. It lasts around 14 hours but the extra 4 hours is not noticed because it has already reached it's peak hours ago. For me, it lasts 10 hours but i could increase the dosage to make it last 12 hours.

When taking Vyvanse, the drug (lisdexamfetamine) turns to Dextroamphetamine in the liver by breaking the enzyme attached to it so it takes over an hour to kick in which is why I don't want it. It lasts longer than concerta if the concerta is not high enough.

So yeah the closest would be Concerta because it's long acting.
Thanks for this!

I think chemically speaking, Adderall is the closest of the stimulants to vyvanse. Vyvanse is unique in the way it's activated. Financially, Ritalin IR (methylphenidate IR) is the cheapest, followed closely by Adderall (amphetamine-dextroamphetamine)IR.

Er...the closest match that's a stimulant would definitely be Dexedrine Spansule, an sustained-release formulation of dextroamphetamine. So basically it's like Vyvanse in the fact that it's a SR version of d-amp but really everything else is completely different. The main difference is the duration - Vyvanse lasts me 12-15 hours, Dexedrine Spansule lasted no more than ~7 or 8. And Vyvanse, lisdexamfetamine, contains an amino acid that regular d-amp formulations don't contain. The (beautifully) complex design of Vyvanse is much different than Dexedrine. But if the duration of Dexedrine is a problem you could take a dose of Dexedrine Spansule in the morning and then after lunch/in the afternoon you can take a second dose of instant-release dextroamphetamine. And that should last approximately the same time that Vyvanse does.

But there are still other options besides Dexedrine! Another poster mentioned Focalin XR. Um, have you ever tried methylphenidate?

Hi, new member here. Learning a lot I

Just want to ask - was your adderall the XR? If so did you ever attempt to get IR (generic available): My insurance company gave me problems past more than 1 pill a day of XR 30 but when I switched to IR generic, they didn't care what dose I was prescribed (it's a lot less expensive).

I'm thinking this may be your case.
