My current health insurance does not pay for ADHD medication to people over 18 because they do not believe adults have it. Can anyone tell health insurance that DOES pay for it? My life is basically dependent on these drugs to run my life.

SUPREMEADHD, Hello and welcome to PC. It is nice to meet you and I am glad that you decided to join. It irks me that adult ADHD just isn't taken too seriously. I have my own rant about that. I do not know the answer to your question as you live in a state that I don't live in.
So many factors are involved when an insurance carrier chooses what it will and won't pay for as for as meds. I am in a HMO so I have my own troubles with getting my insurance to cover meds that my doctors order. I would suggest asking your question in the Insurance and Finances forum. Maybe someone who frequents there can help. Hopefully you can find answers. Please don't give up. Welcome to Psych Central. Sorry to hear you are having trouble getting ADHD medicine with your health insurance. My own experience is a good psychiatrist specializing in ADHD or similar problems can point you in the right direction.
If that is not possible, here are some articles that discuss some of the issues about ADHD for adults Psych Central - Search results for Insurance plan ADHD medication to people over 18 I would go to a health care advocate that helps people sign up for ACA affordable care act health insurance. They either know or know how to find out.

Most major plans pay for concerta or Ritalin for adults, they just require prior authorizations, what health insurance do you have.
Also, have you thought about just paying cash for Ritalin? Generic Ritalin is less than 15$ for a months supply. That may be less than your co-pay even. |
