hi am 24 and new to this site, ive read the symptoms of add and i recognise them in my childhood, also by asking my mum and she agreed that as a child i did have poor concentration, memory and attention problems, but as an adult even thought i still daydream and still have a mind of thoughts the majority of add symptoms i no longer have or i have a mild case of them, does this mean i might of had mild add as a child,i scored 72 on the add test i found on here,is it possible as we get older, add symptoms more or less disapear,
thanks

Welcome to the site, Kazza. I think the symptoms of ADD can also be symptoms of other things. You say you still "daydream" and I know I "withdrew" from my world into my daydreams heavily as a child (and had to enter therapy because of that pretty much) and that alone could cause poor concentration, memory, and attention problems! I wasn't "there" to do the concentrating or attending. My mother died when I was quite young and my stepmother was pretty harsh and I was a mess psychologically. Did you have any "problems" as a kid; what you thought was ADD might just have been psycho-social problems of growing up (nice way of putting "immature" like I was :-)

Have you ever been evaluated by a doctor or psychologist? They'd be the best people to ask about yourself personally. We're just peers here. But yes, I think we can outgrow stuff.

I'm not sure, Kazza (but welcome). I agree with everything that Perna said.

One theory might be that people don't 'outgrow' ADD, but develop methods for working around its obstacles. ADD presents different ways of processing information, but it's not a problem if it doesn't cause any impediments in your life that you can't figure out how to get past.
