I have been doing a lot of research into this, trying to find alternate ways of controlling my friend's ADD without suggesting medication. Firstly because it is not my place to say, secondly because i don't want her to think i am insinuating medication will make her a more likeable person and thirdly because i don't want her to feel the odd one out having to have meds just to keep up with NT people.
So that's why i have been looking at natural remedies which in turn are suppose to alleviate the symptoms and help you to rewire your brain without taking medication. I don't want my friend stressing about having to take medication just to be "normal" to people who don't know or understand her. She will stress about remembering the tablets and if she forgets to take them she will be hard on herself about it. Therefore i am going to suggest this food plan that is suppose to ease a range of symptoms such as trouble concentrating and forgetfulness. The positive aspects of this is you won't have side affects of tablets, anyone can do it and it will boost your general health. I am going to suggest this to her and see what she thinks, i will do it with her so she doesn't feel left out or like shes the odd one out and hopefully it will help her ADD ![]() This is an example of some natural remedies: 5 Natural Remedies for ADHD Has anyone tried natural remedies and if so have you noticed an impact with it? It is difficult to help someone else unless they are open to accepting help. If your friend prefers not using medication, that is a personal choice but it puts more pressure on oneself to do the routines that help every day. Not sure why natural remedies would necessarily be better than meds unless the meds have unwanted side affects.
These are not remedies but things that help me cope. Here are some lifestyle changes that can give a little boost. Here are some of the things that help me. I have to watch what I eat because foods I eat can stabilize my moods or exaggerate them. A high protein low carb diet with snacks or meals every 3-4 hours will over time reduce my swings. I also avoid alcohol and recreational drugs because those can really increase depression. Here is what I use when my head gets over crammed with thoughts. Breathe in a natural way. Silently count one on the inhale and 2 on the exhale. 3 on the inhale and 4 on the exhale. Continue up to 10 then go back to 1. This helps me focus on breathing rather than the wall of thoughts. Other lifestyle changes that help me are doing yoga, exercises, mindfulness, calm music, and being active on Psych Central. Thank you so much for that advice i might see if she will use the breathing techniques and alternate her diet. I think her mum doesn't want her taking them yet because of the side effects but i can try and ask. Thank you ![]() Claire ![]() |
