My son (8) was diagnosed in 2014 with ADHD. It has been quite a journey. We medicated for the last two years and have recently discontinued medication due to health scares involving side-effects. I am hoping to gain some insight and support in this group. The toughest part is school. He is in Second Grade and they are expected to sit very quietly and do as they are told. He has only been off of meds a few days and I am already starting to receive notes home. Any advice is appreciated. Nice to meet everyone.

Welcome to PC!
Is the school aware of his diagnosis? Does the school have a special ed department? It might be worth just contacting whoever is in charge of that division and explain your son's situation. At least that way, they hopefully will not discipline him for something that is out of his control. Does your son have an IEP or a 504?

if you check out your state's department of education website you will be able to find out what resources you have available to you. Sometimes there are alternative learning centers that are better equipped to deal with ADHD students.
I have no idea if this would help your son but my friend's son has done much better since they changed his eating habits. However; it is a constant struggle because he doesn't eat gluten or refined sugar. It is not an easy diet to follow but he's a different kid on it.
