Does anybody out there suffer from being Bipolar AND ADHD? It's ruining my marriage and making my husband sick (extreme stress which leads to high levels of cortisol). I had to leave my job after 25 years because my symptoms got WAY worse as I got older and I couldn't handel the high stress that goes with handling clients investments etc. And I did make mistakes. I do still work though just not in the higher ranks anymore. In explaining that problem solved, unfortunately making significant changes to save my marriage is not as easy in fact right now I feel it's hopeless. So, if anybody has experience or are in the same boat I would love the feed back.

I'm planning onto getting an ADHD diagnosis, but for me, bipolar symptoms are just a part of the ADHD condition. I generally struggle with the whole bipolar concept (as well as many psychiatrists, it seems that each one of them has a completely different idea about this "disorder". It's hard to speak of sth as an illness, while there are no medical proofs) and generally don't stick to this label. I think most people who are diagnosed ADHD do have bipolar traits and vice versa, it's just depends on the pdoc's interpretation. Some say that - as the symptoms of attention deficit disorder overlap with bipolar - many people are actually misdiagnosed (and overdiagnosed) with BP.

How were you diagnosed with BP? What are these symptoms that you mentioned about?

If I were you, I would just concentrate on ADHD and get a proper therapy for it.

In the times of higher stress, the condition symptoms tend to get worse.

25 years is a long time, maybe you should change your job for something less distressing?

I have bp 1 and adhd. I think the bp has caused bigger problems for my relationship. My doctor says that they should always treat my bp before they treat the adhd and we didn't even start looking at attacking my adhd until the bp was under control.

What kind of problems are you having with your marriage?

Yeah, I have BP 1 and ADHD. Like you I almost lost my marraige. I definitely lost my job several years ago but I saw several doctors and got help. I have a job now and things are better for the most part. I still have trouble with the constant need for stimulation and lack of focus. I don't know if it will ever be better but something is better than nothing. I wish you luck!

Yes, I have bipolar I and ADD, inattentive type. I control this through medication but I am now on disability because I had a bad bipolar episode and couldn't manage work anymore.

I take Geodon, Brintellix, and Adderall for the bipolar and ADD. I've been cleared to work at something part time, but haven't found anything yet.
