Hi everyone. I just though I would make a short post and introduce myself. My name is Allison, I'm 16 and I live in Ohio, USA. I was diagnosed with A.D.D. in the summer of 2005, after having increasing problems throughout junior high. I'm currently seeing a psychiatrist and I'm taking Aderall. Things have improved gradually, but I still have my fair share of things to work out with school and my social life particularly. So I hope that joining will be a good thing for me, and that maybe I can also help some of you.

Nice to meet you Alli. I am a mother of a 13 year old girl who was diagnosed in 1st grade and is currently on Adderall XR and she thinks she is the only one. Just know that there are adults/parents/teachers that are educated in what ADD/ADHD is and will help. Just ask!!
It isn't easy going thru these years in Jr & Sr High, just keep in mind from a parents point of view that we don't always understand and if you can explain and reach out to us, it will help us understand better how to help. My daughter doesn't want to understand this and would rather lash out and not speak so she can justify the 'my parents don't understand, nobody understands me' attitude. When she tries to 'pacify' us (her parents) she doesn't have a conversation to explain, she becomes over dramatic to where there is no point and when we try to bring reason & questions into the conversation to understand better she stomps off.
It is hard for everyone. You may have the diagnosis but you aren't the only one affected. Keep that in mind. Your whole family is affected, each in different ways. Your family is there for you and loves you no matter what. Remember this and lean on them for support and it will make the journey easier. Remember the friends you have around you as well. New; Diagnosed ADD Teen; Nice to meet you

Hi Alli!

I realize it's been a while since you posted this, so idk if you're still checking it & such. Just thought I'd say hello since I'm a fellow ADD-er from Ohio!

Kudos for getting diagnosed & treated - I know it takes courage to get help. Especially with something like ADD.... if I had a nickel for everytime somebody's said something to me like "But only rambunctious, hyperactive 5-year old boys have ADD... you must be making this up!" -- well, I could damn near pay for my Adderall! New; Diagnosed ADD Teen; Nice to meet you Anyway, I know it's not much of a consolation, but taking action now is going to help you *immensely* in the coming years! I just got diagnosed when I was 21 (I'm 22 now), and looking back, college would have been so much easier if I'd learned about my ADD beforehand. Hope everything is still going alright for you -- & of course feel free to hit me up if you wanna discuss ADD issues or whatever... New; Diagnosed ADD Teen; Nice to meet you Best of luck!

Jenny
