Does anyone do this? Like right now I am watching a video on Youtube on my laptop, but also was watching another video on my phone at the same time, or scrolling through facebook while listening to the video. I was thinking of watching a movie after I put my daughter to bed but she is in bed now and I find just one thing isn't holding my attention, I have to be doing multiple things at once.

Yep
I run dual monitors, so it's quite normal to have a video playing on one screen, and doing something completely different. Saying that I don't think it's because I feel I have to. I think its more because I can..

I guess I just feel bored or I am thinking about other things I want to be doing/watching/looking up at the same time. Sometimes I will be watching a YouTube video, think of something else, pause the video and open a new tab and watch a different video/look something up and next thing I know I have a bunch of tabs open and I don't end up finishing most of them. I can't focus on one thing at a time.

I once had to purchase more memory for my computer because it helpt crashing from the amount of stuff I was trying to run... But I don't think it's that uncommon to be jumping between several things at once - Or I could be wrong

I have a friend who does this, and it always causes me to become overstimulated whenever I'm in the room at the same time, because it's just a lot of stimuli. So, I wonder if the desire to do this is due to sensory issues, specifically of the hyposensitive variety, which seems pretty common among ADHD folks. (I'm hypersensitive instead.)
On the other hand, I often find that if an activity doesn't take up enough of my attention (or whatever), I'll end up daydreaming which will gradually result in my paying inadequate attention to the intended activity. So I may have to multitask to function, e.g. listen to music while driving, draw a picture during lectures at school, etc. Maybe sensitivity level just affects the choice of activities. |

Also at work (I clean rooms at a hotel) I listen to music or podcasts while I clean and sometimes I feel so overstimulated I have to put away my headphones because it just feels like too much.

People say you get things "done" better if you do one thing at a time. But I don't just want to get things done. I want some enjoyment as well.
When I'm online I often have the TV on and I might watch it some, or not really. Also I'm playing off and on with my phone. I always go between windows on my computer. Watching a movie takes me hours! LOL. Often I can't even get into it and I turn it off. I don't know why it matters, it is more that OTHERS find it weird... Even if I work on the computer I am in chat also, I pay it as much as attention as I need. To get into a movie straight through I have to watch it with other people, hit play and get in the mood. Otherwise I will pause probably 40 times. I have grown together with my laptop to the point I can type messages without looking or thinking, at the same time I have a convo with real life friend. She thinks it is creepy because she says it is like my fingers think on their own. LOL. |

I am the same way. Sometimes I'm talking to friends, writing for roleplay, watching TV and listening to music at the same time... Lol. Add singing in there occasionally with the music.
They love me at work because I'm the Queen of Multi-Tasking. I can handle 5-6 customers on my own, get tasks done, and mentally work on other tasks while I'm doing tasks. So I tend to do 2-3 tasks or more a shift, while recovering (I work retail. That just means fixing things and cleaning up after customers).

I'm quite terrible at true multitasking though. I might burn food if I walk away from it or let the tap running because I think I will come back to it soon and I don't... Oops.
