I am so frustrated about my life right now. I was diagnosed adhd 3 years ago and have read so much about it. But I am now dealing with a gambling addiction that has never been part of my life before 2 years ago. I keep telling myself that i don't have a problem. But I definately do. I keep going back. have been to GA but didn't think it was for me. I think i better get back there. But my question is. Does anyone else suffer from this addiction and is it a part of ADHD?

Hi LostandFound ...
I'm no expert but I think I've seen something on TV that advertised gambling (and thoughts of suicide in teenagers) as a side effect of certain meds for depression. I want to say it was Cymbalta ... but I'm just not sure. (The mind IS a terrible thing to waste and living on pain meds means I not only have Senior Moments but also brain farts!) My suggestion ... check out the side effects of whatever meds you're taking. Dig deep ... most drug companies don't want you to read the fine print! Also check with your pharmacist ... THEY know more about this sort of thing than ANY doctor. BTW ... have you tried playing games online? For instance, www.pogo.com has games where you can win money BUT it's a free site and doesn't cost you anything! Keep us posted ... and keep trying because trying your best is all anyone can ask of you! GoodMama

Compulsive gambling can happen to anyone, I don't think it is related to other disorders besides the possibility of other addictions.
http://psychologytoday.com/conditions/gambling.html Can you go see an addictions counselor? Maybe since you didn't care for GA a specialist would have other resources for you to try.
