Here's the deal...newly diagnosed ADD at 33....fist script was vyvanse and it made me so agitated like almost manic...stopped that with a quickness well after about 7 doses (one a day at 35mg). Talked to my Doc and we decided on Ritalin. Start low on 5mg/3x a day and see how I feel then build up from there. I didn't fill the script until about 4:30 so my first dose was at 5. Within about an hour I could feel my eyes getting heavy and I felt really relaxed like I could just drift off to sleep. Not super sleepy or tired. Just like I could ease into a nice little napper lol. The problem is that my lack of energy has always been an issue! And lack of motivation. And fatigue. And depression. I have done a good job the last two years of taking accountability for my mental health after a long time of ignoring it. I see a therapist for cognitive therapy and a psychiatrist and have been on Wellbutrin 400mg/day for the past two years. I feel much better! The only thing that hasn't improved is lack of attention/focus. So, fast forward to ADD and the Ritalin. Why is it making me feel tired!!!!!!! I want the complete opposite! How am I supposed to stay focused on what I need to do (at this point it's school and my studies) if I can't even get to the point of studying BC I just feel like sleeping?!?! **** is driving me crazy! If it's not one thing it's another you know? My depression is in check I'm happy...would be completely happy if I could finally get my degree! It's just been such a long road and I was really looking forward to an add medication helping. Strike one Vyvanse. Strike two Ritalin? I know i have to give it time but I just hope this Ritalin is going to do the trick. Has anyone else felt tired on stimulants? What does this mean? Because I felt tired on this one initial dose does that mean I will always feel tired on it? Any advice would be cool..I'm just feeling disappointed I guess. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums!

Ritalin makes some people tired.

Adderall works well for a lot of people. There are other options, Focalin is one. I've heard Straterra is pretty ineffective--well, that's what my psychiatrist thinks. Your doctor can guide you in finding what works for you.

ADD meds won't motivate you. You need to initiate the project/task that needs to be done. The med will help you focus on getting it done.

Also, some meds take time to find the best doseage for the patient. My friend felt way too wired on Vyvanse 60 mg, but does well on 50 mg. Less can be more with these meds, IMO.

You sound manic, are you ok? Which ADD med are you on? xo

Haha I'm not manic but thank you for the concern....I can see how you thought that lol with all my exclamation points and questions. But, yes I'm okay just a little frustrated. I just started Ritalin 5mgs 3 times a day. This is only my fourth day on and I know I have to be patient. It was just the first few doses I had gotten so tired after taking each dose that I was worried it was gna be a side effect. The tiredness is slowly going away though like yesterday I didn't feel tired at all and today only a little.

Focalin XR has been good for me. It sounds like maybe your body just needs time to adjust? Hopefully you continue to feel less tired!

If you are still around, what just was your experience with Vyvanse? Can you describe the agitation? I'm curious as I might try it out. I had some issues of agitation, restlessness, this need to shake my legs, hands or whatever to feel calm with Intuniv. (And stomach aches, but that you didnt mention) But my attention is still a bit of concern now, so i probably need to try something. Or did you continue the Ritalin? How did that pan out?
