I have always had a very high tolerance to medications and fast metabolism. Very acidic stomach.

I take dextroamphetamine for ADHD and my doc and I are trying to find the right dose. It is really hit and miss right now. I kind of have free reign to find what works, but I’m worried about taking more pills if they are just passing through me without being fully metabolized.

My dose has ranged from 10mg - 40mg a day. With total variation in effectiveness. I have tried following a strict diet but still can’t find consistency.

Could it just be my metabolism and stomach? Anyone experience this? Anything you do that helps? I am just desperate for consistency.

Thanks and love!

When I was on my ADD and Birth Control medicine I actually dropped weight. I am five foot 6 inches and should weigh roughly 125-135lbs to be considered "healthy" at the time I had dropped to a fluctuating 100-105lbs. Literally skin and bones for my height and weight to the point that my doctor was concerned.

We found that the combination was what was doing it to me. I have an extremely high metabolism, I have a very active life style (where at the time I was swimming roughly 2500-3500 meters a day 5 days a week), I was sexually active, a picky eater, and I was on ADD medication. The combination of the ADD and the Birth Control was messing with my stomach, and making certain foods just no longer sit right.

We played around with the dosage of the ADD meds until we found that 30mg of Vyvanse was best for me then she put me on Low Estrogen for the birth control. Once we got the stomach thing down, which for me was too much estrogen, my stomach actually was as better, my ADD medication was working how it should, and although I no longer take my ADD meds as the work environment I am in stimulates me enough.

Talk to your doctor, explain what is going on. Because it could be that you might have to change your diet around as well (that was a huge thing for me too), so you are gaining the calories you need to be healthy, while still getting the medicine you need to function accordingly.

I personally find that eating through the day helps with high metabolism. So if possible you should eat 6 times a day: morning, mid morning, after noon, mid afternoon, early evening, and late evening. It helps a lot with metabolism which for me as what was destroying my stomach until we fixed my eating habit, what I ate, and the dosages of the medications along with exercise.
