I started 20mg of vyvanse a week ago. I felt pretty good the first few days but now I don’t even know if it’s working. I just feel really tired. That being said, I am not getting much sleep as I have 7 month old twins who wake a lot at night. I remember having crashes on Adderall. I take vyvanse around 9 am and start getting really tired around 2-3pm. I am a pretty fast metabolizer, but this seems ridiculous. I was feeling hopeful but not really anymore. It’s been years since I was on an adhd drug. I can’t remember how long it took to work.

Also, without really trying I lost about 5lbs in a few days. It is great but concerns me.

I have a bias about vyvanse. I think its overrated and I think SHIRE the company that makes it has engaged in shady marketing and that its purported to last longer than it actually does. Have you considered dexedrine?

This is exactly how it worked for me. Definitely a fast metabolizer too, but I felt tired with Vyvanse. So pricey too. I'm still trying to get my adult adhd meds adjusted... The long acting stimulants just don't seem to help, but the short-acting do--as long as I take them when I'm supposed to. Anyway, you're not alone. Vyvanse was a bust, as was Concerta. Don't give up.

I feel like I am fairly knowledgeble about stimulants and I have a resentment bias against vyvanse. One reason is it was marketed as the "once a day" med for adhd by SHIRE who also makes adderall. They did that coincidentally when adderall went generic. It never lasts the purported 12 hours and most people I know get 8 out of it. The way it is metabolized is through the gut so eating something of substance gets the digestive juices going which helps it get going. Its heavily pushed and marketed and magically they just received a patent renewal so it wont be generic yet in the USA. HOWEVER there is a generic of it in the UK. Hmmmmm...

Dextroamphetamine isn't as good as methylphenidate for focus but it seems better for keeping me awake from hypersomnia. It was too late to take Vyvanse 50mg at 5pm (Slept from 12am to 5pm) so I slept from 7pm to 12am and then 1am to 9am, took Vyvanse and it kicked in half an hour later.
