I was DXed overfouced ADD. My brain waves are very FAST in every part of my brain. EEGs show it.
I don't space out, I space in. When I think about something, I become so focused on it that a major earthquake could be happening and people on fire could be running and screaming right by me and I wouldn't notice. Can anyone relate? Do you take meds? What meds are helpful for this type of ADD?

I can relate to this. In an attempt to focus in my chaotic mental world, I've some how learned to shut out things. I get kind of tunnel vision, people can be talking to me and I don't even hear them. I get this way watching TV sometimes too.

I've never heard of "overfocused ADD" as a subtype, but there is a well known phenomena to ADHD called "Hyperfocus", which is where you become completely absorbed by what you are doing, to the exclusion of all else. It plays into my insomnia a lot of times too. I also can't turn my brain off to go to sleep. Trust me, I can relate. Sometimes the hyperfocus works for me, and sometimes it's no help whatsoever. I have no choice but to take the good with the bad. Meds help ADHD, and so does seeing a psychologist who has experience and skill with adult ADHD. I do both. Make sure you get another assessment with a psychologist though, cuz ADHD isn't diagnostic from EEG's or other types of scans yet. GET THEE TO A PSYCHOLOGIST! (they'll refer you for a med trial with a medical/psychiatric doctor if need be). ![]()
