I've cut back on my soda intake,to reduce caffeine, and the foods i eat really aren't that high in sugar.I'm no doctor but I'm assuming diet could play a role in this,so i have taken personal responsibility and what i feel are necessary steps. But i cannot focus to save my life.I'm literate,i talk with a decent vocabulary,i can read words but two to three sentences into a paragraph and things start to fall apart. It's odd,I'll be on that second sentence and my eyes will wonder back to the first sentence then my mind tries to shift back to the second sentence and by the time i get to the third sentence I've retained no information. My mind gets shifty, then my eyes get shifty.I have to read a page 3,4 times if not more and even then i have comprehension problems. It makes me feel dumb. And it's been like this for a while, maybe 15 years or so.
All and all,it's really jacked up.I have a strong desire to read but it's frustrating as hell.Does this sound like it's on the ADD level or just flat out Dyslexia? I did an intake interview with a mental health person and she labelled it,"something or other" retardation,my doctor has my paper work at the moment.Either way,it was pretty vague. |

Quote:
That would be my first step. I think people are always afraid to take that first step because they are afraid of what they might find out. If they find out that they do have XYZ, then they would have to take steps to overcome the XYZ... that scares the hell out of most people. Not to mention that most people are scared to death of psychologists and therapy anyway. Regular doctors and psychiatrists are not usually trained in the proper assessment and diagnosis of learning disorders (like Dyslexia) and ADHD. They usually aren't trained in the neuropsychological or psychological testing AT ALL either. That's why a psychologist is so important for proper diagnosis, which will lead to proper treatment.
