We have had my son living with us for one year. This entire year we have been trying to get him properly diagnosed with ADHD and Aspergers. We have been told by a nurse practitioner, his therapist and his school that they all see it in him, but of course....none of them can diag. So, we took him to a doc 5 times and he said that he thought my son had Aspergers, but was hesitant to diagnose without more paperwork from school, etc.
On the 5th trip to the doc, he had us confused with another family and was asking if my son had his tummy tested and had to go through the big machine....WHAT?! Um...that wasn't us.
Our NP wanted us to get him diag'd at this place that isn't covered by insurance...they want over $600!!! OUCH!
My husband has given up and is researching on his own how we can help him. I don't want to give up, there are two more places I can call.
I am trying to get my 10 year old the help and services he needs and the "system" is failing him. Geez...they need to make it easier.
Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, anything? I feel lost right now and thought that you all might be able to help a mom in need.

I can only sympathize with you. Everyone is so concerned about being wrong or giving the wrong dx that your poor son is paying the price. I've been there and done that, the only thing I can say is find a doctor that YOU like, one that has your SON's interests in mind and stick with that doctor.

Back in the day the school was able to give you their "opinion" and suggest a doctor. But with liability issues as they are now, you're going to have to chase your tail for a while.

I don't know how close you are to WA, or even if this team is still in business. But my son was blessed with the Doctors Zimmerman. A husband and wife team out of the Tri-cities.
