I don't consider myself heterosexual, but also not LGBTQ; however, in other online communities it seems a large amount of autistics are LGBTQ, such as on LiveJournal.

The acronym needs an "A" for Asexual. Or maybe I can just put myself under the "Q"?

Bisexual Aspi....Sorta... I can also find myself attracted to transgendered people as well as those who like to blurr the gender line. I guess I just don't think much about gender when looking for a partner... I think a lot of us on the spectrum are less rigid about this kind of thing. I was asexual until my late 20's (dated guys because you were supposed to but never did anything with them any different than I did with my friends). I just put other qualities of a person as more important than gender.

@ Callista.. YES! I too think it needs an A. Personally I think a person can be asexual without being questioning confused or any of the other letters. Really irks me that they assume you will be sexual with someone else or even sexual at all... Grrr

"LGBTQ"
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning. "Queer" is a catchall term for non-traditional sexuality/gender-identity. Questioning just means you aren't sure yet. Sometimes the acronym is LGBTQA, and the A stands for either Asexual or Allies ("Allies" meaning people who are heterosexual/cisgendered but are sick of seeing bigotry against non-hetero/cis people). I've seen the acronym in about a dozen forms and the only part that seems to stay constant is "LGB". After that it's just alphabet soup. But the general meaning of it seems to get across.

Contempt for societal norms can be healthy in a sick society! I'm a bisexual man in a happy exclusive heterosexual marriage. (Gosh! I've never spelt it out that explicitly before. Thanks for the challenge!) |
