My husband doesn't know how to pick his battles with our 7 yos on.Meal times at our house are a nightmare! Little things like him wanting to use a spoon for his mashed potatoes or not wanting to eat mixed foods drive my husband insane. Instead of letting it go at the time and praising our son the next time he does it the "right way" (for lack of a better term) he insists on forcing him to do it that way at that moment until our son is crying and refusing to eat.

if your son is like me. my father let me eat my food seprate i have to have it all in its own seprate piles, sometimes he did give up but really , your your sons sake he souldn't be forced. i know how stressfull it is. it may sound silly to other who do not understand but having things mixed up (or in some caes the wrong color) just make us confused and upset. if our routine gets mixed up that it and we go in to a black void. perhaps if you understand this you could try to help your husband understand too ? i hope this helps a little - atrus

I totally get it! I even tend to eat my food somewhat separatly myself so.to.me it is perfectly.ok for.him to.have food."quirks" He hates mixed things and yes doea have issues with colors. He also eats on a divided.plate so foods don't touch. I am big about making mixed casseroles just because it's eaaier with our family of 6 to do that. I take the food before I throw.it in together and put a little bit of each aside for him. Then I have him try a few bites of the "mixed" up food.before he gets his separated stuff. It has helped him to try sooo many things. My.hisbands thinks it's absolutely ridiculous and that I.am enabling him to.continue to have food issuea. He says he.understands he.can't help it but that we need to stop the.behavior.It makes me angry.

Im 25 & have food issues all my life. Cant stand my food to touch. Ill only eat "plain" food. If I have a plate with 5 things on it, I eat one thing at a time until its gone then move to the next one. I dont eat any condiments except for bbq sauce. I dont eat anything with a strong taste. The list goes on...

I wish I could get him to see that he really can't help it. My daughter and I both eat in "rounds" too. We eat one thing then move on to the next. I do let him eat on a divided plate so things don't touch.
