I don't know if I know the answer to that question, but it's how I feel. I walk through this world where everyone else thinks and communicates on an emotional level that I can't see, can't feel, can't understand. I see things that are real. I operate on logic and sense. And that sets me apart. I feel like I alone am real, and my world is full of ghosts live and interact with each other on a plain that's just beyond my perception. They don't even seem to be able to see me. But they are able to hurt me.

This is why I developed DID. That feeling of total isolation is not a fun thing to feel. People often mistake our differences in the way we think as a lack of interest in interacting with the world. Really, we just don't know how to interact with it.

One of the best descriptions of AS I've ever read, was from somebody on the spectrum explaining it to somebody who wasn't. He explained it as 'everybody not on the spectrum runs Windows, you get a nice shiny user interface where you click a button and get a response. All of your interaction is handled by hidden code which is automatically picked up and transmitted without any effort from the user. Whereas those of us on the spectrum run Linux, every action requires methodical coding. Interaction between the two systems is possible, but it is not easy and requires the Linux system to do most of the leg work.' I really couldn't have put it better myself.

I feel like I walk among people who are utterly stupid but they can communicate through mind reading.

Weird world.

Yes, yes, and yes. But that feeling of being surrounded by stupid people is what has kept me from understanding what's going on in my own head all my life. I have an embarrassingly high IQ, but I attributed everything to that, as if I were a different species. I could study people around me from an almost zoological perspective, but I couldn't know what it was truly like to be one of them.

To me it feels like our code is clean, concise, sleek, and elegant and theirs is convoluted. It denies reality and perpetuates fantasy.
