I was wondering if anyone else on here has the issues that I have and can become very upset when someone says something that directly puts you down or something along those lines. I feel that way all the time, a prime example was this morning when I picked up a friend of mine and I was telling him the TV shows that I watched last night and for 1 of the shows he couldn't believe that I would watch it and sort of told me out on it, needless to say I felt very upset after he said that to me.

Sometimes, yeah but it sort of depends on the situation and what they say. If someone just told me they didn't get why I like like movie I like or music I like and gave me a little friendly crap I wouldn't be disturbed...But if they where like trying to insult me it would upset me probably.

The problem with my friend is that he always thinks that he is right even if I know he is wrong.

I can relate to this, esp about watching a tv show that is out of the ordinary. For me, i was watching Touched by an Angel.

But more to the point, my mother's and brother's comments about who i dated when i was in high school and college 1. Really steered me wrong and 2. Did not respect or show any understanding of who i really was or what i wanted in my life. So i am now working on that on myself (and not letting them lead me astray anymore.).

Not so much a matter of right or wrong, but what SUITS you.

I'm an Aspie and I have been very sensitive to criticism.

Yes, when people say things like that I'm annoying or they say I'm not normal. I had an employer do that just yesterday. Not Ok.

I have high-functioning autism, and to answer your question: yes they can.

It doesn't matter if it's direct or indirect, I'm extremely sensitive and somebody's words can hurt me for years. Even someone having a different opinion than me can hurt me. How? Why? you may ask. I don't really know. Maybe I'm just immature, or I feel very strongly about things and can't tell the difference between "I hate X" and "I hate your mother". After all, if I told you I hate your mother, someone you're likely very close to, you'd probably be angry.
