Is anyone able to help. Im looking for any advice/info on childhood dyspraxia, specifically for a 9 year old. What are the traits a psychologist looks for. Is it in the same spectrum as aspergers.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is apparently a common comorbid disorder. I was told that as a kid I would have met the requirements for it. All I know is I was kind of clumsy, couldn't run very fast or catch balls, and in grade 3 I did some sort of finger tapping test.

From talking with my partner, who is a child psychologist who works with children who present with developmental delays, it seems that dyspraxia can but need not overlap with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Her suggestion is to arrange for an assessment of the 9 y.o. by a child psychologist. Depending on the results of that, the child psychologist will be able to work with other health professionals, for example a speech pathologist and/or an occupational therapist, to meet the child's needs.

Occupational therapist... Or a knowledgeable gym / sports instructor / trainer. Maybe to help with an individual sport kind of a thing (to help bridge to social sports / activities). Very trainable... Very much, indeed... With the right kind of instruction / training / input... Dance... Gymnastics... Martial arts... Yoga...

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. We know that a possible diagnoses of ADHD just is not the full picture. Research on childhood MI has brought us to the conclusion of possible dyspraxia with ADHD. And of course Bipolar is also an immediate family trait. We want to be armed with as much info as possible when the psychologist appt eventually comes around, it might make a diagnosis that bit quicker for the help so desperately needed.
