Hello. So I finished my last session with the psychologist and at the end, she was asking me about features of autism spectrum, and then after that, we went over the criteria of social (pragmatic) communication disorder and autism spectrum disorder. If I'm not diagnosed with ASD, I am 99% sure I would be DXed with social (pragmatic) communication disorder. I was reading in the DSM-V and it says people who don't make the restrictive, repetitive behaviours part are DXed with social (pragmatic) communication disorder. The reason I'm unsure about autism in me is because my mom doesn't agree about what I said about the restrictive, repetitive part of it. I believe I fit the criteria, but my mom doesn't, and since they need to ask her because they need to know about my development in order to diagnose autism, I may not fit the criteria in their eyes. But I think the psychologist noticed I have bad social skills. I swear I got all the face emotions wrong. And I didn't tell the story like she did when we had to read a story together.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone was diagnosed with social (pragmatic) communication disorder before autism or autism before social (pragmatic) communication disorder? The reason I ask this is because I want to know if I would be able to get the same support and understanding if I was DXed with social (pragmatic) communication disorder. I feel autism is like 100x more known because I haven't heard of it until today and that is surprising with the amount of research I did into autism and a bunch of mental illnesses. I guess I didn't look much into neurodevelopmental disorders except for ASD, AD/HD, and specific learning disorder(s). But social (pragmatic) communication disorder is long, first of all, unlike autism, and I feel people may not see it as something difficult to live with, even though autism includes the entire criteria to social (pragmatic) communication disorder in it. Maybe it's a new thing, I need to look into it more. Hope you can help Anyone diagnosed with social (pragmatic) communication disorder before autism?.
