Hey, everyone

I'm wondering if it is common for non-autistic people to stim. I know for a fact that I'm not autistic, but I am aware that I sometimes can do some stimming-like behaviors. For example, when I'm nervous or excited, I clear my throat repetitively, clap my hands, wiggle my fingers, or tap my fingers or foot. Sometimes I impulsively hug people I'm close to without warning. However, wiggling my fingers, clapping my hands, and making high-pitched noises when I'm alone is most common.

I'm wondering if anyone else has done these things who have little or no autism.

Stimming can definitely happen in people who aren't autistic. It's pretty common in ADHD, some other conditions I can't remember, and I think sometimes even just neurotypical people who are anxious stim a little.
Thanks for this!

There are also tic disorders, which may look like stimming, but isn't. That's common among people with OCD and AD/HD.
