As a teen I was taken to a doctor that talked to my parents then for a very short time spoke to me may 15 minutes tops. I was then diagnosed with having aspergers was placed on a medication I can't really remember but I think it was used for adhd mostly it made me worse and harmed my heart. After that nothing. In my late twenties early 30s I was diagnosed with having ptsd and ruled out aspergers. I have been to many doctor since that say ptsd, anxiety and depression but not aspergers. The thing is my parents and I to this they argue and fight about this they believe the doctors and hospitals are not seeing what the doctor they took me to saw ie aspergers
Initially when I saw the very first doctor I didn't even know I was going to go to a doctor that day I was shocked and rather upset and looking back a bit of a smart ads though I was rather fearful of what was going on. They also would do is testing in school at one point I was with a teacher I really liked and was safe/comfortable with I tested extremely high so high the poor teacher got in trouble! They then took me to some type of center that only did testing I tested a bit above normal but again I was stressed and not at all comfortable I mention this only because I think it helped lead to the diagnosis of aspergers. So in short I'm confused and don't know how to deal with my parents on this and it's a huge strain on our relationship |

I empathize with you, as I was misdiagnosed with a sleuth of things and medicated as a teenager.
I don't think it's possible to diagnose someone the autism spectrum in 15 minutes; diagnosis typically take multiple visits and tests. It is possible that your PTSD presented similarly to ASD. I'm not sure if you're saying that you were diagnosed with Asperger's a second time? May I ask, are you upset about possibly being on the spectrum? Do you identify with the criteria for Asperger's syndrome? |
