There's this imprint I have on my brain that seems to be permanently there-mainly being called selfish and a downer. How would you like to live the rest of your life in this manner?

I relate to this. I was told over and over again that I was a bore during childhood and adolescence. Knowing this along with my lack of friends convinced me that I was a very boring individual. Years later I still worry about this when in the company of others. The only things that seem to alleviate it are avoiding others (not ideal) and socializing with others who have a common interest.
