Someone close to me came back from a trip and made this remark while giving me the sheet that I was using my autism as an excuse. What I did was I didn't want the sheet and gave it back. He never ever believed I had real autism. Would you find this insulting? What a nice greeting I got when he came back!

While it’s possible to learn how to manage some autism symptoms, there is a reason why it’s a diagnosis - if autism prevents you being able to do something, it’s not an “excuse”. People who use ableist language (for anything) just don’t understand. Some can be educated, though. It’s just a pity some people would rather stay ignorant.
I’m sorry you had to hear that, though.

It goes to show you how much I really matter. There is a real stigma in autism. I think it was because that person hated seeing me happy. It makes me think autism kind of ruined my life in a way. I'm fine now. it's not like I can change everything.
