I received my official ASD diagnosis yesterday at the age of 32. I guess I feel relief. I had a lot of burn out from hiding stims and behaviors. The psychologist who diagnosed me said he considers my disorder as “ quite pronounced”, but that I have developed coping strategies that kept it hidden. I am ok with being Autistic but I worry it might make it hard for me to get a job.

I was diagnosed at 34.
People with ASD can definitely work. My first real job was at 41. It was in manufacturing, a type of work that fit my personality and interests. If you want to work it is very important that the work fit your personality and interests. Knowing your limits will help prevent failure. No, you don't need to tell your employer. I never did. Are you a programmer? SQL?

It’s certainly possible for you to get a job and even be very successful! Like the other posters said, you need to look at getting something that suits your particular traits and personality. Good luck!

Hi I have an update. I got a job working for an interior design store in there design department. It was through a supportive agency and is only part time but it is a start. Art was always something I was able to doAnd now I do it for work. I Help customers pick out decorative pillows rugs and other things. And I enjoy it so far in my mentor says I’m doing well.
