I'll try to be brief here, but I suspect that my youngest son may be on the spectrum in the range of high functioning, verbal, quite able, but potentially some minor issues with theory of mind. I don't suspect he'll have many issues in adulthood.
That being said, I'm curious what others think the value of a diagnosis would be for someone who is so high functioning. My initial thought was that it would make him more aware of any particular traits he has, but, on the other hand, I also wonder if the diagnosis could cause self-limiting beliefs. I can't because I'm like [x]. Is not diagnosing ever a recommended way to go? Thanks in advance for any help. |
