Well today is the start of Spring Semester. I tend to avoid people, even though I prefer my own company, but secretly I want to have at least one person who I could talk to or hang out. Last semester, I literally, didn't talk to anybody, only my professors (when needed).
Ugh I am terrified, and don't know whether or not it's social anxiety, AvPD, or just extreme shyness. I want to get help, but alas, my avoidance/shyness prevents me from getting the courage to do so. Should I try going to the school counselor? Any advice? Thanks Sarah |

If you feel comfortable going to a school counselor, that may be a good place to start. It shows strength that you are aware of what u are going through!
or if you'd feel more comfortable going to an outside source. Could your primary doctor reccomend a therapist? Quote:

(((( Missmoodyblues)))) I am sorry you are terrified. Whatever it is, extreme shyness, social phobia or AvPD, it can be helped. you can get help for it with the right kind of therapy. I think that some forms of behavioral therapy is what is recommended. But I am not totally sure. Since I accepted my dx I have not had the money to get help.
If you can go to the school conseller thats great. Any first step is a good step. Just know that this can be helped. There are yahoo group message boards for avoidant people. I belong to two of them. Some of the people have been activly working on it for years. So they have suggestions of what works. And also they express their pain. If you can do it, please go to the school counseller or someone to begin getting help. So you can progress toward managing or healing whatever it is. Quote:
