Hi
I use to think that I had Social Anxiety Disorder. But as soon as I read about Avoidant Personality Disorder, I realized that I mostly likely have that instead of the S.A.D. Everything about A.P.D sounds just like me. And I've been this way since forever! Any who, I was just wondering if I could be diagnosed with it at the age of 15? Or would I have to wait until I'm older? Thanks in advance for answering(: |

I don't think you can be dx with a personality disorder until you're at least 18. Something to do with the mind still developing.
Someone more knowledgeable may come along with more info ![]() |

Here is the link to PsychCentral's page on AVPD: http://psychcentral.com/disorders/sx8.htm
And on that page, is this sentence: "As with all personality disorders, the person must be at least 18 years old before they can be diagnosed with it." |

Hello. :] I know this post is kinda old but I think i may have the same problem as you. I used to think i was just extremely shy but I stated to think I had Avoidant Personality Disorder. I fit most of the criteria. However, I'm still too young to be diagnosed.
